CONSULTANTS

Dr.K.G.Karunaratne is the Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon of Ward 11A. The ward and clinic provide routine and emergency orthopaedic services to patients.

Dr.K.V.C.Janaka is the consultant in charge of Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU) and Ward 06. The ETU of SJGH provides an array of services for surgical and medical emergencies. The medical ward (Ward 06) provides essential medical care for patients with highest standards.

He obtained his overseas training from Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS in the United Kingdom. He joined SJGH in 1997. He has been a Board Certified Consultant Rheumatologist for the past 14 years. He has published his scientific research in EULAR (European League against Rheumatism) Journal 2005.

She obtained her overseas training from Lancashire Teaching Hospital and Leeds NHS in the United Kingdom. She joined Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital in 2009 and has been a Board Certified Consultant Microbiologist for the past 19 years. She has worked in Teaching Hospital Kurunegala and NIHS Kalutara as a Consultant Microbiologist before joining SJGH. She has held the office of Secretary, Sri Lanka College of Microbiologist. She joined SJGH in 2009. She served as the secretary of the Sri Lanka College of Microbiologists for a period of 3 years. She is a member of the board of study in medical microbiology in the PGIM and the coordinator for post MD training. She was awarded the President-s award for scientific publication in 2014.

He obtained his overseas training at Harold wood Hospital Romford, St. Bartholomew Hospital London and Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds in the United Kingdom. He has been a Board Certified Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist for the last 22 years having worked in Teaching Hospital Mahamodara and Base Hospitals Panadura, Embilipitiya and Balangoda. He joined SJGH in 2008. He has been a council member of Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is the Treasurer Elect of the SLCOG for 2015. He was also the Academic Secretary of Sri Lanka Menopause Society in 2012 and received the Presidential Award for Scientific Research in 2013.

She joined SJGH in 1995. She has been a Board Certified Consultant for the past 14 years. She obtained her overseas training from Oxford University Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK and Kings College Hospital, London, UK. She is the treasurer of Neurosurgical Society of Sri Lanka from 2009 to date. She won the award for the best paper at college of Surgeons in 2004.

She was appointed as the Consultant Neonatologist in 1999 and has worked towards improving the neonatal morbidity and mortality over the past 23 years. She obtained her overseas training at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong and Keio University Hospital, Japan. She developed the neonatal ICU and has succeeded in making it the most sought after NICU and the leading post graduate training center in Sri Lanka. Dr Weerasekera is an active member of the Board of Study in Paediatrics, a council member of the Neonatal Forum of Sri Lanka and a council member of Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka. She has been a guest speaker in many obstetric and Paediatric fora and has more than 25 research papers and several publications to the credit.

He is an alumnus of the faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. He underwent his postgraduate training in professorial units of the Colombo North Teaching Hospital Ragama and Lady Ridgeway Hospital for children Colombo 08. After qualifying in MD Paediatrics he received his foreign training from the Frimley Park Hospital, Frimley, Surrey, England and at the Nepean Teaching Hospital, Kingswood, Sydney, Australia. Upon his return to Sri Lanka he worked at District General Hospital Gampaha for two years, covering up duties in the Paediatric ward for one year and thereafter as consultant OPD. Thereafter he was appointed to Base Hospital Tissamaharama, where during his tenure the unit was given a whole new outlook with the latest equipment added to the clinic, ward and the NICU. He has been a Board Certified Consultant since 2016.

Dr. Neranjana Vithanage heads the Biochemistry Lab of SJGH. The Biochemistry lab provides essential investigations for inward and outpatient care, and is equipped with the latest analysers to provide accurate reports in minimal duration.
